Essex 42, Leigh (Dalton & Hamer, page 34)

Denomination: farthing, scarcity: Scarce
42. O: View of a church. I HEMMIN LEIGH.
R: DEALER IN ALL KIND OF HARDWARE 1796.

Scarce.

This farthing was a puzzle to the writer and readers of the "Bazaar Notes." The
nearest approach to a solution which I can get, is John Fleming, Whitesmith, of
Worcester; there is, about seven miles distant, a large parish named Leigh. Pye
does not record it, and probably it was no more a currency token than those of
Woodford.
